Lake Hawea View, a unique and stunning 25 acre property, sits crested above candescent Lake Hawea, deep in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The properties out-look is the epitome of dramatic and breath taking landscapes. The large stone and cedar clad homestead is architecturally crafted to capture both lake and mountain vistas from the  kitchen, dining and outdoor living areas. Staying at this special retreat will be an unforgettable experience for you and your friends and/or family.

Lake Hawea View boasts a gorgeous open-plan living area with state-of-the-art facilities and a beautiful stacked stone fireplace indoors and out. Vast sliding cedar doors lead out from the dining room to immaculate lawns, the BBQ and hot pool area, over-looking the lake and mountains. Nestle in the comfort of luxurious leather lounge suites and soft furnishings or relax in the afternoon sun by sinking into the elevated day bed. Large granite bench tops span the main kitchen area with state of the art facilities and built in espresso machine. Enjoy a traditional Swedish sauna that seats up to six people.

The guest house is the perfect addition to the main dwelling with a second kitchen and dining area.

Lake Hawea View not only offers an idyllic and spectacular location for your stay but is also the perfect place to host your ultimate event. Whether it’s your wedding, birthday, corporate event or a family reunion, we have all you need to turn your dreams to reality.

This luxury property is in a quiet and private location, sheltered from the prevailing wind and elements. Grand in scale, the house can accommodate up to 14 guests over-night, allowing plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the tranquillity with your closest family and friends. The property can host up to 100 guests for your special event.

The property in total has 7 bedrooms. The main house is comprised of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.  The upstairs master suite, encapsulates elevated lake and mountain views from the balcony, bedroom and ensuite. The smallest of the four bedrooms sits privately adjacent to the master suite with two single beds, making it perfect for a family. Downstairs in the east wing there are two other bedrooms; both with the ability to be split king or king beds. Both rooms open up onto the north facing lawn with spectacular views of the mountains and lake. Two bathrooms are located downstairs, one very close to the two bedrooms, the other a short walk down the hall towards the main living area.  The house is heated by underfloor heating and remains a comfortable 22-24 degrees. It also has an open schist fire for ambience.

Outside you will find a spacious, manicured lawn, perfect for relaxing in the summer months or to celebrate your occasion.  Step down from the lawn onto the large stone steps to the hot tub, perfectly positioned on the ledge of the property overlooking Lake Hawea, offering the most incredible sense of space and tranquillity.

For large groups there is the option to embrace the adjoining guest house.  The guesthouse is a two story three-bedroom home with its own kitchen, lounge, laundry and bathroom. The kitchen is located downstairs and opens up onto its own courtyard with lake and mountain views.  The bathroom is also downstairs and is design with a shower, toilet and laundry. Upstairs, the cosy master King bedroom has its own balcony and offers lake and mountain vistas, this bedroom can be split into two King beds if preferred. Down the hall there are two additional bedrooms. The first bedroom has a queen bed and private balcony and the second room has two King single beds. The guesthouse is available when you book for groups of 8 or more people or upon request.

Wherever possible, we make choices to minimise our impact on the planet and our treasured local environment.

We know that we need to work together to make this world a better place and that ways to do this can always be improved, we welcome any suggestions and ideas during your stay.

  • We use planet-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products and reusable cotton cloths to keep Lake Hawea View pristine.
  • We provide planet-friendly, non-toxic, and, where possible, locally-made toiletries and other household products for guests to use.
  • We avoid the use of single use plastic, providing compostable bin bags, reusable straws, canvas shopping bags, steel pegs and more.
  • We recycle everything we can and try to avoid any products with packaging that can/t be recycled.
  • We provide recycling and compost bins for catering and guest use.
  • We provide fair-trade and organic tea and coffee and avoid individually wrapped products.
  • Our hot tub contains an ozone water purifier, minimising the use of chemicals whilst keeping the water clean. We also ensure that a cover is placed over the hot tub when it isn’t in use to reduce water evaporation and heat loss.
  • We do not allow balloons or sky lanterns at events, unless they are fully biodegradable.
  • We don’t allow confetti at weddings.
  • As old lightbulbs run out, we replace them with LED bulbs, 75% more energy efficient than traditional bulbs.
  • We encourage guests to reuse their towels and to reduce their time in the shower, saving energy and water.
  • We limit paper use where possible and use recycled when necessary.
  • We provide toilet paper, tissues and paper towels made of sustainable bamboo and sugarcane, not wrapped in plastic.
  • We try to have an impact on our supply chain and ask all suppliers and contractors to minimise waste, energy and resources where possible.
  • We provide signage and tips for guests, explaining recycling and composting systems
  • We encourage guests to use local suppliers for events and provide a list of recommended options.
  • We encourage guests to use natural and native decorations and flowers where possible.

We aim to:

  • Plant & nurture a herb and vegetable garden, for guest and management use.
  • Explore movement sensors to automatically switch off lights when rooms are empty.
  • Explore water collection techniques and gravity-feed irrigation to feed our beautiful outdoor landscape during drier months.
  • Explore inviting local bee keepers to utilise our grounds, providing local bees with Manuka.
  • Host at least two events a year, in collaboration with local community groups, to showcase different initiatives with environmental and social purpose.
  • Regularly remove wilding pines.
  • Plant at least 20 native trees on the property each year
